On 19 March 2026, the Charter of the Rights of Children of Parents Deprived of Liberty was signed at the Ministry of Justice. The signatories to the document are the Minister of Justice, the Ombudsman for Children, and the Director General of the Prison Service. Dr. hab. Małgorzata Michel, Professor at the Jagiellonian University, from the Behavior in Crisis Lab, is a co-author of the Charter’s content as well as a member of the working group at the Ministry of Justice, whose aim will be to monitor the implementation of the Charter’s provisions in penitentiary institutions and the quality of measures protecting children visiting parents in penitentiary isolation.

The agreement was signed on behalf of the Signatories by Deputy Minister of Justice Maria Ejchart, Director General Anna Figurniak representing the Ombudsman for Children, Monika Horna‑Cieślak, and the Director General of the Prison Service, Colonel Renata Niziołek.
