Conversation with a Chatbot Influences Voters’ Political Decisions

AI-powered chatbots can genuinely change voters’ attitudes and do so more effectively than traditional political advertising. Even a brief conversation with a language model can shift voting preferences by several percentage points, according to an international study published in Nature with the participation of Dr. Gabriela Czarnek from the Behaviour in Crisis Lab at the Institute of Psychology, Jagiellonian University.

Dr Gabriela Czarnek’s, a researcher at the Behaviour in Crisis Lab at the Institute of Psychology of Jagiellonian University, article has just been published in Nature – one of the most prestigious scientific journals in the world! In the paper “Persuading Voters using Human-AI Dialogues”, an international research team – including Dr Czarnek – shows that even a short conversation with an AI chatbot can shift voters’ preferences, and does so more effectively than traditional political advertising.

Małgorzaty Michel jest dr Agata Borowska, reprezentantka nauk społecznych, adiunktka badawczo-dydaktyczna Uniwersytetu Jana Kochanowskiego w Kielcach, absolwentka Szkoły Doktorskiej Uniwersytetu Ignatianum w Krakowie oraz Wydziału Pedagogiki i Psychologii Uniwersytetu w Białymstoku, w specjalności pedagogika wczesnoszkolna z przedszkolną oraz rewalidacyjna. Badawczo osadzona w metodologii badań jakościowych, m.in. partycypacyjno-edukacyjnych action research w modelu Mode-2 Science. Ten właśnie model uprawiania badań jest tematem seminarium.

Dr. Erica Molinario Awarded OPUS 29 Grant for Research on Pro-Environmental Motivations

The National Science Centre has announced the ranking lists for the OPUS and PRELUDIUM competitions. Among the awardees are 73 researchers from Jagiellonian University. One of the winning projects is “Green to Be Seen: How Social Influence and the Need for Recognition Drive Environmental Engagement” by Dr. Erica Molinario from the Behaviour in Crisis Lab. The funding awarded for the research amounts to PLN 1,655,043.

Solidarity, one of the fundamental values enshrined in the Treaty on European Union, has gained particular importance over the past decade, as Europe has faced the financial crisis, the migration crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic and Russia’s war against Ukraine. A report prepared by the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission in cooperation with academic partners, including the Jagiellonian University, examines how this key value can be understood and strengthened.
