Join the Global Crises Project: An International Call for Collaborators
Behaviour in Crisis Lab at Jagiellonian University invites researchers from around the world to join the Global Crises Project, a large-scale international research initiative conducted in collaboration with the Centre for the Politics of Feelings at Royal Holloway, University of London, and affiliated with the Psychological Science Accelerator (PSA).
Researchers interested in participating are invited to submit an expression of interest by 31 October 2026.

The brain protects identity: why are we reluctant to change our beliefs?

Confrontation with counterarguments does not always lead to a change of mind - sometimes it even reinforces existing beliefs. As shown by the results of research conducted by the Behaviour in Crisis Lab, led by Professor Małgorzata Kossowska and published in an article in Scientific Reports, both political and non-political beliefs are linked to neural systems responsible for maintaining a coherent sense of self. It is precisely these mechanisms that make changing one’s views so difficult.
