Zafer Özkan

Dr. Zafer Özkan is a psychology assistant professor who will join the Institute of Psychology at the Jagiellonian University in February 2024. He obtained his MSc in Social and Applied Psychology in 2015 and his PhD in Social Psychology in 2019 at the University of Kent. He has been employed as a lecturer at Ordu University since 2019.

His research interests are intergroup relations, immigration studies, mental health, and protest action participation. He conducted research on intergroup contact with disadvantaged group members and outgroup solidarity (Özkan et al., 2023), intergroup contact with host group members and refugees' remigration (return and migration to a third country) intentions (Özkan & Ergün, 2022; Özkan et al., 2021), socio-demographic predictors of remigration among Syrians in Turkey (Özkan et al., 2023).

Currently, his research focus is on identifying the predictors of mental health among members of displaced groups. Additionally, he is studying the drivers of participation in protests related to anti-vaccine and anti-corruption movements.
