A social psychologist and full professor of social sciences, Head of the Social Psychology Unit and the Center for Social Cognitive Studies at the Institute of Psychology, Jagiellonian University. Leader of the interdisciplinary Behaviour in Crisis Lab, dedicated to studying human and societal behaviour in the context of global crises.
Her research focuses on the cognitive and motivational mechanisms underlying complex social phenomena, such as political ideologies, prejudice, and social inequalities in cultural contexts. She also investigates knowledge resistance and cognitive rigidity, and their importance for solving social problems and socio-political decision-making.
She is the author of over 100 articles published in international academic journals and eight books on social cognition, stereotypes, prejudice, and tolerance. Her work has appeared in European Journal of Social Psychology, Political Psychology, British Journal of Psychology, Behavioral and Brain Sciences, Advances in Experimental Social Psychology, European Review of Social Psychology, Nature Climate Change, Social Psychological and Personality Science, and Computers in Human Behavior.
She has served as Associate Editor of European Journal of Social Psychology, Journal of Social and Political Psychology, and European Review of Social Psychology. She is currently a member of the editorial boards of Behavioral Sciences of Terrorism and Political Aggression and Motivational Sciences, and serves as an editor of Social Psychological and Personality Science.
From 2008 to 2012, she served as Director of the Institute of Psychology at Jagiellonian University, and from 2012 to 2020 as Vice-Dean for Research of the Faculty of Philosophy. She was also a member of the Council of the National Science Centre (2012–2020), including serving as its Chair in 2018–2020, and President of the Polish Social Psychological Society (2008–2014).
She is a corresponding member of the Polish Academy of Sciences (since 2016), and a member of the European Association of Social Psychology. In 2017–2023, she served on the board of this association.
She has served as principal investigator and co-principal investigator in several international consortium projects funded by the European Commission, Riksbankens Jubileumsfond, the European Association of Social Psychology, and the PSA Research Network. She led a consortium project under the CHANSE ERA‑NET co-fund programme, financed by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (Grant Agreement No. 101004509, 2022–2025), and is currently a partner in the Interdisciplinary Perspectives on the Politics of Adolescence & Democracy (IP‑PAD) MSCA Doctoral Network, funded by Horizon Europe (2023–2026).
She also holds advisory and expert roles, including as a member of the advisory team on COVID‑19 to the President of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and as head of the advisory group on open data at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Since 2024, she has been a member of the Science Policy Committee.
She has received numerous scientific awards, including the Tadeusz Tomaszewski Prize for the best psychological publication, the lifetime achievement medal of the Polish Social Psychological Society, and the “Laur Jagielloński” award.
