Katarzyna Ornacka

dr. hab. Katarzyna Ornacka, prof. UJ, sociologist, integrative personal skills and empathy-based communication coach, psychotherapist, clinical social worker. Member of the European Association of Schools of Social Work, Global Childhood Studies Network, Trauma and Dissociation Association, The Wisdom of Trauma Group, and the Polish Institute of Trauma. Supervisor of the Academic Association of Social Work Students at the Jagiellonian University (until 2021), Editor-in-Chief of Issues in Social Work journal (until 2023), and a regular reviewer in the Journal of Social Work

Her main research interests include: sociology of social problems, sociology of childhood and family, evaluation and social work, research in action (AR, PAR), social therapy and systems approach in family therapy. Together with a team of professionals, she is researching the relationship between early childhood trauma and the process of recovering subjectivity for children with experience of abuse who are in foster care and foster families. She is also part of the open research group working within BEHAVIOR IN CRISIS LAB JU on the project Social Welfare Institutions: A Trauma-Informed Approach, focusing on welfare institutions confronted with the necessity of methodical responses to emergency situations and humanitarian crises.
