Job offer (DEADLINE: 5th of January): Research Fellow in the Psychology of Social Media

The University College London (Division of Psychology and Language Sciences) is seeking a Research Fellow to investigate how the social context and motivation affect social media behavior. We are particularly interested in the formation of echo chambers, self-selection and social influence processes that occur in Facebook or Twitter. The post-holder will design experiments and quasi-experiments focusing on self-selection, spreading of misinformation, belief updating, and identity formation, which can lead to polarization in domains such as political ideology or climate change. The work will be carried out in collaboration with an international team and is part of a grant funded by the Collaboration for Humanities and Social Sciences in Europe (CHANSE) The position starts as soon as possible and is available until September 2025 in the first instance. The post-holder will have a PhD in Psychology or in a relevant area.

Summary: 5th National Conference on Clinical Psychology "Clinical Psychology in Times of Unrest" (Institute of Psychology, Jagiellonian University, 23-25 November 2023)

The 5th National Conference on Clinical Psychology (V Krajowa Konferencja Psychologii Klinicznej ; V KKPK), organized by the Institute of Psychology, Jagiellonian University, took place in Krakow, 23-25 November 2023. This year's conference topic, "Clinical Psychology in Times of Unrest," was related to academic and practical (psychological, clinical, and psychotherapeutic) aspects of a polycrisis, with pandemics, armed conflicts, refugee and migration crises, and the climate crisis included. The conference was held under the patronage of the Behavior in Crisis Lab. Among the plenary lectures and thematic sessions there were:

1. A thematic session entitled "War Trauma of the Civilian Population of Ukraine - Polish-Ukrainian Experiences in Providing Psychological Aid," moderated by Prof. Dorota Czyżowska and Dr. Karolina Rojewska. It included presentations given by representatives of universities, government institutions, and non-governmental organizations from Ukraine and Poland addressing crisis intervention and psychological support in times of war (oral presentations and posters authors: I. Grzankowska, M. Deja, M. Wójtowicz-Szefler, I. Nesterenko, V. Demchuk, V. Berezniak, Y. Vasiutina, K. Rojewska, A. Mirski, E. Szepletowska, N. Ambroziak).

2. Various oral presentations and posters on psychological and clinical aspects of the coronavirus pandemic (authored by: G. Wójcik, A. Wontorczyk, I. Barańska, B. Bętkowska-Korpała, K. Olszewska-Turek, N. Ziółkowska, E. Gruszczyńska, K. Rachubińska, M. Chęć, K. Konieczny, S. Michałowska, K. Karasiewicz, N. Nogalska, W. Kujawa, A. Mańkowska, N. Treder-Rochna, A. Łada-Maśko, M. Harciarek).

3. A thematic session entitled "Crisis as a Challenge to Mental Health," moderated by Dr. Anna Wendołowska, addressing issues of mental health and well-being in the context of the climate crisis. In addition to psychological presentations, the session featured a presentation by Prof. Zbigniew Karaczun from the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW) on the health effects of the climate crisis in Poland. Prof. Karaczun's visit to Jagiellonian University provided an opportunity for enhancing collaboration and discussion on academic research related to the climate crisis conducted within the Behavior in Crisis Lab.

4. A panel discussion with members of non-governmental organizations involved in supporting vulnerable individuals and groups, as well as conducting socio-political interventions in environmental, health, and humanitarian crises. The discussion focused on the challenges faced by non-governmental organizations during the polycrisis period. The invited guests who participated in the discussion were members of the Ocalenie Foundation, RegenerAkcja Foundation, Climate Coalition, and the Silesian Association Ad Vitam Dignam (E. Jędrychowska-Płonka, K. Matyjasek, D. Przygucka, B. Chodzyńska, Z. Karaczun, discussion was moderated by Dr. Joanna Grzymała-Moszczyńska).

5th National Conference on Clinical Psychology „Clinical Psychology in Times of Unrest” (Institute of Psychology at the Jagiellonian University, November 23 – 25, 2023)

On November 23 – 25, 2023, the 5th National Conference on Clinical Psychology (V KKPK) will be held in Krakow, organized by the Institute of Psychology at the Jagiellonian University and the National Consultant in the field of Clinical Psychology. This year's conference theme, "Clinical Psychology in Times of Unrest," is related to academic and practical issues of poly-crisis and will be addressed by participants from the fields of academic psychology, clinical psychology, and psychotherapy. The Behavior in Crisis Lab is a patron of the conference.

Among the plenary lectures and thematic sessions, there will be:

- A presentation of results from a project conducted by researchers from the Institute of Psychology and the Institute of Applied Psychology at Jagiellonian University, in collaboration with the Behavior in Crisis Lab, focusing on the mental health and well-being of Polish young adults in the context of four crises: the coronavirus pandemic, the war in Ukraine, the climate crisis, and the economic crisis.

- A thematic session with guests from universities, government institutions, and non-governmental organizations from Ukraine, focusing on crisis intervention standards provided to victims of war and psychological work in a wartime crisis situation.

- A panel discussion with members of non-governmental organizations whose goal is to support vulnerable individuals and engage in socio-political interventions in environmental, health, and humanitarian crises. The discussion will involve invited guests from Ocalenie Foundation, RegenerAkcja Foundation, Climate Coalition, and Silesian Association Ad Vitam Dignam.

- A thematic session on psychological practice in the context of the climate crisis and the impact of climate change on mental health and human well-being.

Presentation of our lab members at the Lesser Poland Researchers' Night

On September 29, 2023, Prof. Hubert Kaszyński, and Dr. Anna Potoczek, leaders of thematic groups at the Behaviour in Crisis Lab, gave a lecture at the Lesser Poland Researchers' Night titled "The Phenomenon of Hospitality: Factors Influencing Assistance to Ukrainian Refugees in Poland."

During the lecture, Prof. Kaszyński discussed his original research aimed at identifying factors that enabled hospitality towards Ukrainian refugees and the role that social assistance played in this process. Dr. Anna Potoczek focused on the psychological aspects of assisting refugees, drawing on the latest research findings from Prof. Małgorzata Kossowska's team, the leader of the Behaviour in Crisis Lab. Following the lecture, the presenters invited employees of the Municipal Social Welfare Center, a lawyer, and the gathered audience to engage in a joint discussion. The event aimed to popularize the research results conducted at the Behaviour in Crisis Lab and disseminate their conclusions to a wider audience.
